Juice Recipe: Ginger Spice

In keeping with our cleansing theme, this juice uses the best of ginger and lemon, plus some wonderful spices to create a warming cleansing juice. Ideal at any time of the day, it provides essential nutrients to support your digestion, as well as immune boosting powers.

Juice Recipe: Ginger Spice

Ingredients

2-3 large carrots
½ courgette (zucchini)
2cm chunk ginger
2cm slice unwaxed lemon
½ tsp cinnamon
Touch of cayenne powder (take care!)

Wash all of the ingredients and put the carrots, courgette, ginger and lemon through the blender. Sprinkle in the cinnamon and mix together – use a spoon, fork or a whisk to combine. Wash your juicer and enjoy!

Herbs and spices are great to add to juices. Cayenne has super powers (experts say it can dissolve mucous in the tummy, improving digestive health) and cinnamon helps to reduce blood sugar levels. Both spices, especially combined with ginger, are great for combating flu or colds. Lemons are natural cleansers, great to add to any juice (or just add to water).

For more sweetness, add an apple instead of one of the carrots. Consider adding half an avocado to provide a more substantial juice (blend in the avocado together with the juice).If you like your juice with a real kick, then increase the size of the chunk of ginger! Combining ginger and cayenne can make for a powerful and hot juice, so add your cayenne slowly.

Adding psyllium husk will also increase the cleanse you experience. Psyllium husk is a source of fibre and adding it to your juice will bulk up the juice (it becomes thick and gelatinous) which means it will help to cleanse your gut and remove more toxins and waste from your body. Remember to drink plenty of water. If you have not used psyllium husk before, start with a small teaspoon. Most health food shops will sell a powdered form of psyllium husk, which is suitable to add to your juice.
