Sweet Digest: pear and courgette juice recipe

Pear and courgette juice On our upstairs terrace with mountain views.

The juice of the month is our popular Sweet Digest: a lovely pear and courgette juice. I called it Sweet Digest, due to the sweetness that the pears bring and the combined benefit of pears, courgette and broccoli on the digestive system.

Courgette, also known as zucchini, is abundant at this time of the year in many countries north of the equator. They are high in fibre, water, potassium and low in fat and calories, so are a great addition to any juice and to your diet in general. There are many health benefits to eating courgette, including supporting bowel and digestive health. Follow the link above to read more and find out how to pick a good one!

Eating pears supports your digestive health too, as they are also a great source of fibre. It has also been said that eating pears regularly can help to boost memory and maintain the health of your heart and circulatory system. Read more about the health benefits of pears here.

Juicing tip: if you want to make a low calorie yet creamy juice, add courgette to any juice!

Sweet Digest: pear and courgette juice recipe

Serves: 1
Calories: 208

Ingredients

2 pears, stalk removed
½ large courgette
2cm broccoli stem
2cm unwaxed lemon

Method

Prepare your fruit and vegetables for your juicer: remove any labels off your fruit and veggies, then wash them beneath cold running water. (If you are using a waxed lemon, then trim off the outer layer, leaving the pith on).

Put all the ingredients through your juicer.

Wash your juicer and enjoy your juice!

Reduced fruit pear and courgette juice option

This juice can also be enjoyed with a lower fructose content, by reducing the fruit to half. Replace one of the pears with half a cucumber to make a lighter juice:

1 pear
½ courgette
½ pepino (Spanish cucumber) or small piece of normal salad cucumber
2cm broccoli stem
2cm unwaxed lemon
